AirEx Smart Ventilation Control

World’s first smart air brick

Reduce the home’s energy bills with a simple building retrofit.

Introducing AirEx Smart Ventilation Control

Keeping Homes Warm With Smart Airflow Control

Many homes across Europe are naturally ventilated with air bricks. This air flow is essential in the home, but is responsible for a large proportion of a home’s heat loss.

Airex has created the world’s first smart air brick to reduce the home’s energy bills, helping to end fuel poverty and climate change with a simple building retrofit. The Airex system currently provides 12% savings and has a return on investment of 2-3 years.

Air bricks are bricks with multiple holes to allow air to flow in the home, either at sub-floor level or within the habitable space to prevent damp and mould. However, always open air bricks can cause cold, uncomfortable draughts and mean that up to 15% of the energy used to heat a home is wasted.

How Does AirEx Work?

The AirEx brick is a smart ventilation control system that replaces existing air bricks. The AirEx bricks have in-built sensors to measure the environmental conditions (such as temperature, relative humidity and indoor air quality) and use smart software algorithms to automatically regulate airflow.

Each brick opens to reduce humidity and prevent mould and damp, and closes to reduce heat loss and improve thermal comfort. Furthermore, the real time data collected from its smart sensors reduces the risk of unnoticed damp damages in the property by providing automatic alerts.

AirEx Installation

AirEx Installation

Installation is quick, simple, and hassle-free, it should take between one and two hours in most homes.

Installing the Airex hub is as simple as connecting it to your internet router with vents paired easily using the Airex dashboard. Installing the vents themselves is straightforward for a competent DIYer with masonry skills. For those less confident, a local handyman or tradesperson can assist.

WHAT IS A SUB-FLOOR AIR BRICK?

Air bricks are bricks with multiple holes to allow air to flow under the floor of homes with a suspended ground floor. It is essential to ventilate these underfloor cavities to stop condensation forming, which could otherwise cause mould growth or timber rot.

However, constantly open air bricks can contribute to up to 15% of the energy used to heat a home being wasted, as well as causing uncomfortable cold draughts.

HOW DOES THE AIREX FLOORVENT WORK?

The Airex brick is a smart ventilation control that replaces existing air bricks at a sub-floor level (under the floorboards). The Airex bricks have in-built sensors to measure the environmental conditions (such as temperature and relative humidity) and use smart software algorithms to automatically regulate airflow.

Each brick opens to reduce humidity and stop mould and damp, and closes to reduce heat loss and improve thermal comfort.

WHAT IS A ROOM LEVEL AIR BRICK?

Room level air bricks are built into your wall to allow fresh air to flow into the home. This natural ventilation is essential to stop condensation forming and also to ensure a healthy indoor environment.

However, always open air bricks can contribute to up to 15% of the heating loss in a home, as well as causing uncomfortable cold draughts.

HOW DOES AIREX ROOMVENT WORK?

Airex Roomvent’s smart sensors monitor the environmental conditions and smart algorithms enable automatic air flow regulation. In addition to air temperature and humidity, the system also monitors indoor air quality, while taking into account local weather data.

The vent closes to prevent unwanted draughts and opens to ensure a healthy indoor environment. The system uses AI and learns when you are at home to maximise efficiency.

We recommend you keep your home hub plugged in, as it's optimising the energy saving and ventilation and collecting data about the energy savings in your home, as keeping track to make sure there are no risks of damp and mould. If you accidentally unplug it, the air bricks will continue to open and close as required. As soon as you plug it back in, the hub will connect again continue to monitor the health of your home.
Airex systems monitor the sub-floor temperature and humidity readings to determine when the air bricks should open and close to allow ventilation that will keep your home warm and healthy, as well as to refine our algorithms which will improve their efficiency over time. Your data is not sold to any third parties. You can find out more at https://www.airex.tech/privacy.
The batteries last for 5 years. You'll receive a notification when they are down to 15% to replace them. It's as easy as changing the battery on a child's toy and takes 2 minutes to do. If the batteries do run out, the vents will be left open until they're replaced.
